About

Hello. I’m Jennifer and welcome to Fairly Ordinary. I write this blog to chronicle my ordinary days.

I live in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where I am married to Daniel (a web developer) and a play-at-home mom to Drew, our 20 month old son.

I write about faith… as I am re-learning what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. I love studying theology and sharing the journey of faith with others.

I write about family… because I miss them all so much since we moved away from both sides and have such grand times when we do have gatherings.

I write about geekery…as I’m on the Internet quite a bit, a lover of gaming, interested in technology, a fan of the Blogosphere, and a not-so-secret fan of anything steampunk.

I write about home… as I’m slowly creating a space that we love to come home to. Home life isn’t just about how to arrange the dining room but for me it’s also about creating a sacred space for us to enjoy.

I write about marriage… as Daniel and I have been married 2 years and we are still learning what it means to be two people on the same journey through life. It’s not all butterflies and happiness but neither is it simply guts and no glory. Marriage is freaking amazing and I absolutely love it. But it is not for the Faint of Heart. I’ve learned a LOT about myself and my own selfishness.

I write about mothering… as I teach our little boy about the world, the grandness of it all, the everyday wonders, and how his story is truly part of the greatest story of all. I write him letters each month and eagerly await the day he will be old enough to start pouring through the letters from his childhood.

I write about movies and tv shows… because I love to soak up the culture and share all the goodness around. A bad tv show and a bad movie is always overwhelming when you remember how much time you’ve wasted on something you could have written in your sleep. But when you discover something glorious, it’s impossible to not share it.

I write about the ordinary… and sometimes mundane because this blog is, after all, about chronicling the ordinary days. In the thick of winter, as the year draws to a close, it’s easy to forget how much GOOD has happened in the past months. But if you take the time to write as you go, you can quickly pour back through and see how what you thought was ordinary at the time was actually extraordinary.

I write about reading… because I LOVE books. We have a bundle of cluttery bookshelves all throughout each room in our home and I still swear that my favorite nights are cold, rainy, and beside a stack of books.

I write about traditions… because I absolutely love creating a lasting tradition for my family to embrace. It isn’t about clinging to traditions to be better or to find more joy but instead it’s about building upon memories and creating a gentle rhythm throughout the year of “this is when we gather to remember that” and “that is when we party like rock-stars to celebrate this.”
